Disaster Engineering

Patrick Riban, P.E.

Many facilities, plant or maintenance engineers are faced with natural and manmade disasters every year. These same engineers are often ill equipped to deal with the mayhem that occurs following a disaster. This course provides guidelines for making sure facilities are initially designed or modified to be more robust during a disaster. Then the critical task of mitigating further building damage, immediately following a disaster, is addressed. Finally the important point of identifying damage and properly rebuilding after a disaster are covered.

This course content was successfully tested during a real natural disaster in which tornados caused severe damage to two manufacturing facilities.

This course includes a multiple-choice quiz at the end, which is designed to enhance the understanding of the course materials.
